USA stay untouched, Hungary keep play-off hopes going

In the final two sessions of play on Tuesday (25 April) at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2017 USA won in the battle of the undefeated against Czech Republic to stay atop Group D.

In session 18 Hungary won their second match of the day against Japan in a high scoring 15-4 final, which included two ends with steals of four points each.

Italy battled back despite being down 8-2 after five ends against Wales. With a score of four points in the sixth end, followed by a steal of two and another steal of one Italy captured the win 9-8.

Finland scored five points in the sixth end against Belarus to seal the victory 9-6 after seven ends.

Scotland continued their winning ways over Serbia 11-0 after six ends to remain undefeated in Group B.

Session 19 hosted a key match featuring USA versus Czech Republic, USA came out on top after an effective power play* in the seventh end to score two points. In the eighth end, USA ran the Czechs out of stones to win 7-4.

In a tight match-up, Germany scored three points in the fourth end over Canada with a double take-out to take a 4-2 lead. Canada, trailing by three points in the seventh end, used the power play* to score four points and take a 7-6 advance heading into the eighth end. In the final end, Canada stole three points to end the match 10-6.

France won against Kazakhstan 8-6 with help from three points in the seventh end to close the gap 6-5. The game ended with a steal of three in the eighth end when Kazakhstan missed a run-back.

England stay in the play-off hunt with a victory over Turkey 10-5.

Ireland won their second game of the day 11-4 over Bulgaria to shuffle upwards in Group D.

*Power play: Teams have the right to use a ’power play’ once in every game, in an end where they have last stone advantage. When a ’power play’ is being used, the pre-placed stones will be moved out to one of the sides, and placed as a corner guard and a stone behind it, with the back of the stone against the tee line.
